Aspr\u00e9mont, 500m<\/h4>\n\n

My bivouac neighbors left very early, wanting to get to Nice by dawn. I woke up to hear them leave. With the excitement of the arrival, I didn’t go back to sleep, and after a moment in a horizontal position, I decided to slowly start getting ready. I’d told Gabriele I’d be arriving in Nice around 10am, and he’ll be picking me up at the finish from Aix-en-Provence. I know I’ll be arriving much earlier, but I’ll stop for a few coffees on the way to the beach when he gets there. I set off with the headlamp at around 5.40 am, as we’d already done most of the climb from Aspr\u00e9mont the day before. I continue to climb for about fifteen minutes, and then the descent to Nice begins.I can see the city lit up below me from the dark forest. It looks beautiful. And this is my last step into nature, before reaching the aire St Michel and ending this adventure on asphalt. <\/p>\n\n

The day begins to dawn, and I can see the city more and more clearly, the avenues, and even the traffic lights, which change from red to green to red. The return to civilization is approaching. <\/p>\n\n

Aire St Michel<\/h4>\n\n

Just after the aire St Michel, we take a small road through the villas of Nice’s outskirts, and gradually reach the city. I enter Nice at around 8 a.m., stopping for a coffee and a pastry. I then continue wandering around the city center. I reach Gabriele, who tells me he’ll arrive around 9:30. I stop for a 2nd coffee, a 15-minute walk from the beach and therefore from the official arrival. He tells me he’s parked and on his way. I set off, it having started raining in the meantime, and I’m super-excited to arrive and find him. The emotion is palpable, this is the end of a month’s adventure in the Alps, the long way from Lake Geneva, it’s gone by so quickly, but at the same time the start seems so far away. I arrive at the Promenade des Anglais, the traffic light is red, I see Gabriele and tears begin to well up. I cross the road and give him a hug, it’s amazing how much has happened since I left Les Contamines to continue on my own. <\/p>\n\n

We head down to the beach, I put my bag under cover from the rain and jump into the water, which feels so good, warmer than the ambient air that day. Thanks to this early morning rain, I can live this moment without anyone on the beach, except for the guy in the water at the bottom right of the photo who’s waving, I saw that afterwards \ud83d\ude42 <\/p>\n\n

The 4 of us meet up with Isabelle and Laurent for breakfast, then head off to find a restaurant for lunch with Gabriele. By chance, we come across a little Italian restaurant that looks really good! It’s bright blue as we leave the restaurant, and we hit the road for Aix. It’s the end of a wonderful adventure, and I’m already starting to think about the next one! <\/p>\n\n
