Roya,1499
I have a coffee with the shelter’s cat, who really likes the bivouac area.
I set off around 7.45am with Gilles, heading for the Col de la Crousette. First you go up along the river in the forest, then you turn left to arrive on a magnificent plateau with hundreds of sheep, a few goats and some beautiful patous.
The shepherds are there, in the middle of the plateau, in a white tent. The climb continues on a rockier path to the pass.
Col de la Crousette, 2499m
Once at the Col, turn left to reach the foot of Mont Mounier at 2,583m.
Back down to the Col des Moulines.
Col des Moulines, 1.981m
It’s hot and dry, but fortunately we come across a river a little further down the road where we can stock up on water.
We then climb 200 metres back up to the gates of Longon. We then walk for about 30 minutes to reach the refuge.
Refuge de Longon, 1.870m
(NO bivouac possible – presence of animals and Mercantour Park regulations – you have to walk an extra 50 minutes to reach Rougios, where bivouacs are authorized and there are flat areas).
Half-board at the refuge 68
I decide to spend the night on half-board at the refuge, which I’ve heard so much about, and enjoy a real bed and a good dinner. A great atmosphere in this isolated refuge, they also make very good cheeses and homemade yoghurts. Delicious dinner and breakfast with local and homemade products, I really recommend the experience.
